It’s Winter Jazz time again!

Like all international jazz festivals that include artistes from other genres, the festival is no exception and the inclusion of one of the most anticipated acts – Winky D real name Wallace Chirumiko – is a must-see.

Fresh from his Malaysian tour, Winky D or simply now known as “Ninja President”, will be out to take his act a notch up, having mesmerised fans and caused quite a stir during the Elephant Man concert, the “Musarova Bigiman” singer is on the prowl.
The festival culminates on Friday when Winky D, with a live band joins a host of other top-drawer performers, Oliver Mtukudzi, Sulumani Chimbetu, Bob Nyabinde and Victor Kunonga.

Dubbed the biggest winter gig, this year’s festival will be held at Jazz 105 and the City Sports Centre and winds up on Sunday at Ochi City.
Jazz 105, the ceremonial home of jazz will host the first gig tomorrow, which will feature artistes like Diana Samukange, Jazz Invitation and Mbare Trio among others.

The hub of crooners (Jazz 105) will also host Bob Nyabinde and Willom Tight among others on Friday while the mother of all gigs will be held at the City Sports Centre.
Saturday’s show which will take place again at Jazz 105 will feature artistes like Victor Kunonga, Too Open, Jabavu Drive, Picky Kasamba and The Cool Crooners will take revellers down memory lane as they play some of their old hits.

Alexio Kawara, Sulu Chimbetu and Dino Mudondo will play at the closing ceremony, which will take place at Ochi City on Sunday.
The music show that is in its 11th year is held annually and it is well known for identifying, promoting and nurturing local jazz talent in the country.

A notable product of this initiative is young Adrian Mparutsa, currently doing his final year of an honours degree in jazz guitar at the University of Cape Town.
In the context of nurturing young talent, the Winter Jazz Festival will play host to the Prince Edward High School jazz band, which has also become an annual feature at the fete.
