Dance outfit Iyasa continues to make great strides after being included in the highly anticipated Doek and Slay events set for Bulawayo and Harare.
The City of Kings and Queens will host the gig at the Zimbabwe International Exhibition Centre main arena on 4 May, featuring headline acts Master H, Travellers Band, Ex Q, and Iyasa.
The Harare edition will take place at Alex Sports Club on 13 April, where Iyasa will share the stage with Winky D, Intotal Band, and other top performers.
Iyasa’s communications manager, Kudakwashe Takunda, expressed excitement about being part of the event, which aims to provide women with a space to unwind and connect with one another.
“Being part of the Doek and Slay movement is a true honour for Iyasa. Over the past year, we have witnessed the event’s remarkable growth, empowering and uniting individuals through culture and fashion.
“Our inclusion in this event aligns perfectly with our mission to celebrate and promote African arts and culture. We have also noticed that at some events, fans tag us on social media, dressing like us when we’re on stage. We hope to light up the event with our outfits, which are loved by many,” said Takunda.
He assured fans that Iyasa is preparing an electrifying performance for the event.
“We’re working hard on rehearsals at the moment, preparing for our performances both locally and internationally. Attendees can look forward to an energetic performance from Iyasa, as we’ll be bringing our unique blend of dance and storytelling that showcases the rich cultural heritage of Zimbabwe. We promise our best.”
The Doek & Slay event has garnered strong support from attendees. Due to its growing popularity, some men have vowed to gate-crash this year, leaving many curious about how things will unfold. —@mthabisi_mthire
