Iyasa start European tour

BULAWAYO’s much-travelled arts ensemble Inkululeko Yabatsha School of arts (Iyasa) is set to leave the country tomorrow for its annual five-month European tour.

Iyasa – founded and directed by Nkululeko Innocent Dube – staged its farewell performance at a city nightspot on Sunday ahead of their tour.

Dube said a 10-member group would travel to Europe and they had been rehearsing very hard for their tour.

“We’ve been working tirelessly on our performances and new productions and we look forward to every moment. We’re set to leave the country on Wednesday and will be back in August”, said Dube.

He said their tour would take them for the first time to Spain and France and to their traditional venues in Austria.

“Iyasa has been working on new productions DO YOU JODEL and dance ‘Celebrate Africa’. We’re going to be doing many collaborations with different artistes mainly Austrian,” said Dube.

The group had the opportunity to share the stage with other artistes at President Mugabe’s 91st birthday celebrations in Victoria Falls and thrilled many at the bash.

Iyasa has become a household name in Zimbabwe and has managed to establish itself locally, regionally and internationally.

It has performed in different countries which include U.S.A, Austria, Germany, Serbia, South Africa, Slovakia and Japan.

The group produced shows that include Sounds of Africa, Welcome to Africa and have since then also come up with co-productions with Austrian companies that include Dschungel Wien titled Afrikanische Marchen that has been running for three years.

It has also shared the stage with legendary artistes such as Dolly Parton.

Iyasa members perform theatre and dance productions, music, poetry, at public shows, leisure places, weddings, collaborations, promotions, advertisements, road shows, corporate functions, festivals, commissioned and social campaigns.
