VETERAN saxophonist Phillip Svosve celebrated his 54th year in showbiz at Habhana Lounge in Hillside where he enthralled fans playing both his own compositions and copyrights on Saturday afternoon.
Svosve was supported by Jabavu Drive, one of Zimbabwe’s most consistent jazz outfits, while businesswoman and socialites Zodwa Mkandla, Domasie and Boss Archie Murapa were part of the enthusiastic crowd.
The event was sponsored by events management guru, Wanisayi ‘Mahwindo’ Mutandwa, and tourism chiefs and hospitality industry players attended to show unity.
Svosve worked with the late James Chimombe and veteran bass guitarist Nicholas Mugona, who died last year after a long illness.
Meanwhile, Svosve also won a midweek slot at Habhaba Lounge where he is expected to perform every Thursday.
The jazz supremo could not hide his elation after being given the slot.
“It’s an honour playing at Habhana Lounge on Thursdays as we are set to cater for jazz lovers who have been itching for this to happen.
“As jazz players, we have been lamenting the shortage of venues where we can meet and merry-make with our peers.
“We are glad that management at Habhana Lounge has come to our rescue since we now have a place where we can play our music on a weekly basis. We are grateful that good times are set to roll again,” he said.
