Jacaranda tree crashes car, leaves Chitungwiza man dead

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the death of Tyron Mugove Chamboko (40) of Mubobo Village, Seke, who died after a jacaranda tree fell on top of the car he was in at Makoni Shopping Centre in Chitungwiza yesterday.

Acting Provincial Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Faith Mapisa said the incident occured on Saturday at around 1500 hours during a hailstorm.

“Tafadzwa Kavenya and Chamboko were seated in the motor vehicle, a Honda Fit that was parked under a jacaranda tree. “Chamboko was on the back seat when the jacaranda tree suddenly fell on the motor vehicle,” she said.

Kavenya managed to get out of the car but Chamboko was trapped inside.

“Kavenya reported the matter to ZRP Chitungwiza. The scene was attended the police and the Chitungwiza Fire Brigade.

“They managed to cut the tree and removed Chamboko from the wreckage,” she said.

Assistant Inspector Mapisa said Chamboko sustained serious injuries and was taken to Chitungwiza Central Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The deceased was then conveyed to Chitungwiza Hospital mortuary for post mortem.

Investigations into the matter are underway.
