MULTI-LINGUAL Nicholas “Nixaz” Mazvazva is a professional land surveyor.

He is also an Afro fusion artist.

The 30-year-old can sing in Zulu, Shona, English, Xhosa, Ndebele and Igbo.

He is set to release his third album titled Huya Tirove Ngoma in August.

“I am employed as a land surveyor by the Surveyor General’s Office but I can’t resist my calling as a musician.

“Of course, my job is very demanding but each time that I get an opportunity to record a song, I fully utilise it.

“I am glad that I have a supportive family and bosses at work who understand my vision, which has kept me going,” he said.

Born Bulawayo, Nixaz says he has always wanted to be an entertainer from his days as a student in Entumbane.

“I have always enjoyed entertaining people and I enjoy every moment when I take to the stage.

“As a multi-lingual musician, this has won me the hearts of many as an artist since I do appeal to many tribes.

“As for my type of music, I can safely say that I sing Afro Jazz, Afro traditional, Afro Soul, Afro pop, Afro fusion, reggae and blues.

“To date, I have recorded two albums namely Wegolide recorded in 2019 and Chipo Changu/Isipo Sami done in the year 2021 in addition to four singles and five videos,” he said.

Nixaz, who leads The Oceanic Breeze Band in 2018, believes in originality,

“I was inspired by the likes of the late Andy Brown who was versatile as well as Zahara, Ringo and Nigerian singer Mr Flavour.

“It is my wish that I emulate them and do my best as an artist,” he said.

Over the years, Nixaz has shared the stage with most of the country’s household names in jazz yet he is yet to become a star.
