Jackson showcases summer/winter fashion

showcased her Summer/Winter 2011 apparels.
Jackson, who specialises in women and children’s wear showed what it takes courage and creativity to make it in the designing industry.

The event, which saw fashion gurus, Zimbabwe’s representative in the BBA reality series – Vimbai Mutinhiri – in attendance, En Vogue directors and models and local musician Madiz dressed in some of Jackson’s latest garments.
For a designer who learnt her skills in Cape Town, South Africa, Jackson said she is inspired by the societal settings.

“I make garments that are influenced by the things that are around me. Most of them are an inspiration from different backgrounds in many societies. I can say most of my clothes are a mirror image of the society,” she said.

She also said that she became a designer after realising that she could not find clothes she wanted to wear in the shop.
“I was frustrated by the fact that you enter a shop and you do not find anything you want to wear and that is when I decided to take up designing as a profession. Even sizes and colour shades was another obstructing factor,” Jackson said.

The fashion show ran under the theme, “Its me, its why, its how”, a true reflection of Zimbabwean culture mixed with ethnic wear.
The 29-year-old said that her aim is to go international and be a household name in the fashion industry. Jackson urged Zimbabweans to support local designers give them a chance to make a mark in the

fashion world.
She also advised all upcoming designers to be confident and original.

“My advice to designers out there is that they should introduce their own style and strive to make quality garments that will leave a mark in the industry,” she said.
Jackson was born in Zimbabwe and she did her primary and secondary education in the country before she moved to Cape Town where she obtained her fashion degree.

She has also been in the United Kingdom where she took other designing courses to strengthen her skills.
Jackson said that she plans to open her own shop to promote and sell her garments.

“Plans are underway for me to open a shop where I will be selling my own designs and show the world what I am capable of,” she said.
