“In South Africa, we have seen big names working together on shows and studio projects — a spirit we have been advocating for. This double performance is an eye-opener because we want to change the narrative.”

THE buzz surrounding the upcoming event says it all, as both anxiety and anticipation loom on the horizon.
This is a deal seemingly brokered in “heaven” — a double header many thought would never materialise, especially considering the presumed animosity between the two fan bases.
The fan-driven “rivalry” between Jah “JP” Prayzah and Winky D has long been fuelled on social media, where netizens fiercely defend their favourites, often trading barbs in the process.
JP’s loyal supporters proudly call themselves “Masoja”, while Winky D’s followers identify themselves as “MaGaffa”, further stoking the competitive spirit between the two camps.
As 2026 approaches, this uncommon pairing has had the rare distinction of already being dubbed “The Show of the Year”, even before it happens.
Branded as “One Big Party”, the event is set for the Hockey Stadium, near the National Sports Stadium, in Harare.
Although the two giants have shared the stage before, many felt their elevated statuses and the intensifying fan rivalry made another joint appearance nearly impossible.
Following the announcement, some bloggers attempted to amplify a “cold war” narrative, prompting one journalist and content creator to dismiss the speculation outright.
Courtesy of veteran promoter Partson “Chipaz” Chimbodza, this dream concert is now a reality — a collaboration poised to unite the music industry and transcend any perceived rivalries.
With the stage set for these two showbiz heavyweights, anticipation has reached fever pitch, with some fans expecting a showdown of epic proportions.
Earlier last week, Chipaz revealed that his connection with the two artistes made it possible to bring them together.
“For me, I have a mutual understanding with all artistes. Music is art, art is business and business is about synergies,” said Chipaz.
“After hosting the Jah Prayzah album launch, we organised the ‘Tete A Tete’ gig with Winky D and realised that remarkable growth only comes through combined efforts.
“So, we decided to enter 2026 in style with a joint show featuring both artistes. History will certainly be made . . .
“It is clear that fans are superexcited, as they never expected this to happen so soon. For me, it is normal because we work well with both parties.”
He emphasised the power of collaboration among artistes and their fans in making such events possible.
“Collaborations show unity and complement each other. Convincing the two artistes was easy because we have always worked well with both camps. To me, it is like any other event I have organised.”
He also addressed concerns about the venue’s capacity and safety, given the anticipated massive turnout.
“Ticket sales will determine how we beef up security, but we have already taken steps to ensure fan safety and parking. As for those suggesting a venue change, that will depend on pre-show ticket sales.”
Constant engagement with both camps, he added, made the reunion possible.
Celebrating 21 years as a registered arts promoter, Chimbodza believes “One Big Party” will serve as an eye-opener for artistes reluctant to collaborate.
“In South Africa, we have seen big names working together on shows and studio projects — a spirit we have been advocating for. This double performance is an eye-opener because we want to change the narrative,” he said.
The appeal of the show is further enhanced by the fact that both Jah Prayzah and Winky D are currently drawing massive crowds locally and regionally.
Both artistes share humble beginnings and it will be a spectacle to see them alternating on one stage. Neutral fans who enjoy music from both camps are likely to have the best experience of all.
This gig is undoubtedly a historic moment in the making.
Showbiz watchers expect it to usher in new synergies and collaborations across the creative sector. The remaining debate is who will perform first, who will close the show and which supporting acts will join the line-up.
