JAH PRAYZAH dates one of Zimbabwe’s most talented dance groups – Syndicate Girls -for a family show scheduled for Extra Mile tomorrow. The fiery singer will use the gig to further consolidate his growing popularity among the old and the not-so young fans. From being a minnow only two years ago, and struggling to market his debut album, from where the song “Sungano” is taken from, Jah Prayzah’s profile has risen dramatically, and is now pitted against Zimbabwe’s best musicians to date.
Apart from arming himself with a good discography that is enjoying rave reviews in both the electronic and print media, Jah Prayzah whose real name is Mukudzei Mukombe is ably complemented by a group of youthful but talented musicians, who go for hours on end performing.
Backed by the Third Generation Band, his moves are fast-paced, well-choreographed to match the rhythm of his music, creating a revelling atmosphere among his fans, no matter how gloomy things may be.
Jah Prayzah is one of the young versatile musicians that have changed the face of local music performances.
His unique stage presentation and depth of his content are his best weapons while his command of the Shona language is incomparable.
The musician’s latest album “Tsviriyo” is laden with constructive lyrics that have catapulted him to the top.
Part of his repertoire includes feel good songs like “Tsamba”, “Ngoda”, “Sorry Mama”, “Rufaro” and “Machembere” which he almost always play over and over due to public demand.
Arguably, the young crooner seems to be getting better with each performance. What with the army drills that he performs when he sings the chart topper song “Tsviriyo”.
“Tsviriyo” is essentially a happy-go-lucky type of song in which Jah Prayzah urges fans to look at music as a unifying rather than divisive force.
Although Jah Prayzah’s music cannot be pigeon-holed for one reason or other, he is one artiste who has managed to cut across genres. One moment he sings reggae-flavoured hits then the next moment he goes traditional. That is how he likes it to keep fans entertained.
If you listen to the track “Sisiriya” which features Oliver Mtukudzi then you know what good music sounds like. It appears whatever Tuku touches turns to gold. Remember the song “Kwedu” which he did alongside Sulu?
Added to the fun will be riveting dances from the all female group Syndicate Girls who were recently awarded for their excellency in dance by the Dancers Association of Zimbabwe.
The group continues to wow crowds whenever they perform and on Sunday the gig will be no exception since the girls are raring to go.
The girls promised to introduce new dance routines which are sure to generate a lot of heat among fans. As usual they will be curtain-raising for Jah Prayzah. If you want to know the latest dance make sure you don’t miss this one.
