Jail inspires artist to sing

South African-based musician, Owen “Sama Oza the Star” Moyo, says his experience in jail made him realise his calling as an artist.

Sama Oza Star prays that his music wins the hearts of many.

The 38-year-old started his journey when he travelled to Lupane to stay with his uncle whom he said abused him.

“I grew up in Binga town with my mother after her death l moved to Lupane to stay with my uncle who abused me until I started doing things that landed me in prison a few years later.

“My time in prison helped me realise my destiny which was my ancestral calling, l am a seer and a traditional healer and it also helped me realise my gift for music.

“My ability to sing high notes and change voices are my strongest points. I have a very nice voice and l can play around with it like Vybes Kartel, Killer T, and Soul Jah Love.

The artist hopes to inspire more young artists to pursue their passion.

“l believe that through music one can preach and teach youths about life.

“The disadvantage of being an artist is it takes up a lot of my time and minimizes the time l could be spending with my family.”

Like any other artist, he dreams of sharing the stage with the finest artists who include Rick Ross and Killer T.

“l have always felt the strings in my mind and heart so I wouldn’t say something or someone in-spired me to make music.

“l would like to have a collaboration with Killer T because his music is so touching. Rick Ross is also another one of my idols, I love how he came from a poor background like me but is now a very wealthy man regardless of his past.

“l would say my voice is my biggest skill, throughout my journey I’ve learned how to sing in differ-ent types of ways which is why my music is so versatile.

“What I have learned about the industry is to be patient.

“l see myself doing big things, become one of the well-known and respected artists, performing in prestigious places like ZIMMA and the Gala, getting the recognition l am seeking for in the music industry,” he said.
