DEFAULTING to pay $320 monthly maintenance since 2019 has earned a Mutare man two months’ imprisonment.

Joseph Muteedzi was convicted for defaulting from paying maintenance for his two children for almost four years.

He appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Perseverance Makala recently.

Mr Thurstone Mubvumbi prosecuted.

Mr Mubvumbi said Muteedzi was taking advantage of his ex-wife’s absence as she was away in South Africa.

The court also heard that Muteedzi has since re-married and has another child.

Muteedzi pleaded with the court to be given time to raise the money to clear the arrears as he survives on casual jobs.

The court said Muteedzi will only be released after paying the money.
