There was drama at the Gweru courts after two of five MDC hooligans fainted after they were jailed for three years for public violence.
The two failed to come to terms with their sentence. Prison officers had a torrid time in resuscitating the convicts, who only regained consciousness after a while.
Previous Mutsetse (36), Tawanda Mupfumi (24), Talent Mlambo (29), Tichaona Mupfumi (22) and Bright Ngwarai (23) all of Gweru, were convicted by Gweru regional magistrate Mrs Phatekhile Msipa a long trial.
Mrs Msipa initially sentenced them to five years in prison, before setting aside two years on condition of good behaviour.
The State successfully proved that on January 15, the five participated in the violent protests organised by ZCTU and suspected MDC members.
The court heard that on the said date, and along Matopo Road near Mtapa, Gweru, Mutsetse, Mlambo, Tawanda, Tichaona and Ngwarai unlawfully burnt motor vehicle tyres in the middle of the road and used stones, wooden logs to block the road.
Their actions the court also heard caused damage, prejudice, obstruction and injury to persons and motor vehicles.
This also endangered free movement of persons or traffic.
The convicts were arrested by Inspector Sibanda who was leading a team of police officers.
Ms Constance Madzudzu appeared for the State.
