Jalai wants Chibuku Super Cup sip

DYNAMOS FC vice-captain Emmanuel Jalai is confident his team will go over the FC Platinum hurdle and progress to the semi-finals of the Chibuku Super Cup.

DeMbare face Pure Platinum Play at Mandava Stadium in what promises to be a thrilling midday clash tomorrow.

The two teams have met a number of times in this knockout competition in the last couple of years.

They met in last year’s quarter-finals and FC Platinum beat Dynamos 4-2 on penalties. Prior to that, they had squared off in this competition in 2015 when Dynamos won 7-6 on penalties in a closely contested quarter-final.

The platinum miners won the tie 1-0 at the National Sports Stadium in 2021.

Ahead of the big clash, Jalai says history will not matter as cup games are always unpredictable.

“We have a big task in our hands. Looking at the opponent it’s not going to be an easy game but the team has been preparing very well. We will have Donald Mudadi and Tanaka Shandirwa out for this one but we have capable replacements. Everyone is raring to go,” said Jalai.

The defender says only hard work will see them have their hands on the Chibuku Super Cup silverware.

“Winning the cup will be a huge achievement for us players as a group and for the team but it’s going to require teamwork and hard work for us to reach that goal,” said Jalai.

The defender has over 100 caps for Dynamos and is one of the senior players in the squad at the age of 24.

He has been one of the most consistent players for the Harare giants this season.

Dynamos, who are fresh from a 1-0 Harare derby win over Caps United on Sunday, will be without coach Genesis Mangombe who is away on national team duty.

In his absence Lloyd “Mablanyo” Chigowe is in charge.

In the other Chibuku Super Cup quarter-finals, Chicken Inn will take on Black Rhinos at Luveve Stadium on Saturday at 1pm, while Herentals will clash with Ngezi Platinum Stars at the National Sports Stadium. On Sunday, Highlanders will play host to Caps United at Barbourfields Stadium. — @innocentskizoe.
