Commemorating lives of fallen musicians is now part of Zimbabwe’s entertainment scene as evidenced by gigs held in honour of late musicians such as Leonard Dembo, Tongai Moyo and Simon Chimbetu.
The inaugural commemorative gig for the late James Chimombe has been slated for November 1 at the Hilltop Bar in Warren Park. In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, event organiser Tendai Chimombe said her late father’s honour was long overdue.

“The commemoration gig was long overdue. It was not fair to continue without celebrating the impact that my father made in the music industry and we are looking forward to have a great show,” she said.

Tendai, who is also into music, said she penned a tribute song which she will perform on the day.
“I composed a special song called ‘Legend’ dedicated to him because I believe that he was truly a legend and I will launch it on the day,” she said.

Tendai said she will announce the names of artistes that are going to participate at the gig soon.
“I am still working on the list of the artistes that are going to perform and most of those that I have invited are showing interest and will give a proper list any day from now.

“However, only two artistes have confirmed and these are Dembo Brothers and Potifa Mopo,” she added.
Tendai has promised her fans a polished act and she will perform some of her father’s songs. As Huchi Band we are going to offer the best to our fans as we shall be playing some of his hit songs that many still enjoy to this day,” she said. Tendai Chimombe has been in the music industry for a few years now. She attained a National Certificate in Music at the Zimbabwe College Of Music last year. Born on February 22, 1972 in Harare, Tendai is the first born in the family of the late musician followed by Freddy, Linda, Linden, Kudakwashe (now late) and Tatenda who is based in the United Kingdom.

James Chimombe died on October 23, 1990. He was known for his popular hits such as “Zvaitika”, “Munakandafa”, “Kudakwashe” and “Bindura”.
