BULAWAYO’S Mel James will miss the women’s Provincial Pairs to be held at two different venues in the City of Kings today.
The women’s team will play at the Bulawayo Athletics Club and the men’s team at Old Miltonians .  James said she will not be part of the tournament because she is going on holiday to New York in the United States.
She, however, promised to take her preparations to the bowling greens of the United States.

“I cannot play as I am leaving for a holiday and when I reach New York I hope to be busy practicing in preparation for the Africa States.
“I must be in Harare for a few days before we leave and join our Zimbabwe squad at the training for our Namibia games,” said James.

Meanwhile, former defending champion, Dennis Streak, and his wife Sheona emerged as the overall winners of the Provincial Perks Mixed Pairs bowls tournament in Bulawayo recently.

The couple have won this competition on three occasions.
Terry Bowes and Nettie Fraser, both former Zimbabwe national team players, led the way until they dropped three shots on the 18th end for the Streaks to take a 19-22 lead.

It was 22 all going into the last end and Nettie was on jack but was bumped off and then wiped out by Dennis.
Bowes missed drawing the winning shot by one inch, which was heartbreaking stuff, but the spectators could not have asked for a better final.
“It was an exciting tournament and this year the Streaks won for the third time. It was good match,” James said.

The Harare bowlers will also be busy this weekend.
Highlands Sports Club will host the club’s singles final today.
One of the Highlands bowlers, Roy Garden, said he was looking forward to their match.
“I am looking forward to the final, I have been doing well so I might  win.

“Playing all these local matches is good, it helps to keep practicing as we have a busy schedule to represent our country in many tournaments,” said Garden.
