ZIMBABWE’S Africa States Singles silver medallist Jane Rigby has continued to make the nation proud as she is the only Zimbabwean bowler ranked in the world singles rankings.
Being in the world rankings is every athletes’ dream and being among the elite class is what Rigby has achieved and to the local bowlers, they talk about her fine performance that they will always be proud of.
It is a huge feat for her and she is the only Zimbabwean in both the male and female categories who is in the top 10 while the only other African is South Africa’s Tracey-Lee Botha.
Rigby is ranked the 10th best bowler in the women’s world singles rankings with 446 rating points while Botha is four places higher with 615 rating points, making them the only Africans on the elite rankings.
Rigby has been among the top 10 since her triumph in Cyprus last year where she scooped a silver medal at the World Singles Champion of Champions.
She is currently positioned as the number 10 among the only 16 ranked bowlers in her category that is dominated by New Zealand who have three bowlers including Jo Edwards on number one but she has maintained that position since April.
With 29 years of bowling experience, Rigby said taking part at the World Singles Champion of Champions and making it among the top 16 in the world rankings was a sign of success on the greens.
“In many years I’ve played bowling, I’ve made a good name for myself after winning most of my matches but taking part in the World Singles Champion of Champions was my best moment and it will always remain memorable to me and my family.”
And for her, being among the best is not only a feat she thinks has done her proud but also for Zimbabwe as a nation as she managed to raise the country’s flag high on many occasions at the grand stage. Just last week, Rigby came second in the Africa State Bowls tournament in Namibia where she won a silver medal.
“I am among the top bowlers and it is a huge achievement for me and my country Zimbabwe. It was not easy to reach the finals in Cyprus but I did it and am happy up to date just like I was glad to win a silver medal at the Africa States in Namibia recently.
