adminLONDON. – Adnan Januzaj has landed the biggest payday for a teenager in Manchester United’s history – including a whopping signing-on fee of £5million.Belgian wonderkid Januzaj, just 18, will be paid a basic salary of £60 000 a week, and his signing-on fee will be paid in weekly instalments of £20 000 spread over the five years of his new deal.
The contract outstrips past deals for stars like Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney and, more recently, agreements for young England stars like Danny Welbeck, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Tom Cleverley.
The youngster was one of the few United players to shine in their disappointing 1-1 home draw with Southampton, the late equaliser putting more pressure on boss David Moyes.
After failures in the summer transfer window, tying down down Januzaj and beating off interest from Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester City is a major coup for Old Trafford chief executive Ed Woodward.
Woodward was under fire after failing to land stars like Madrid’s Ozil Mesut, Athletic Bilbao star Ander Herrera, and Everton full-back Leighton Baines.
Moyes was cock-a-hoop to secure the signing of the Old Trafford whizkid.
