Jaricha eyes Miss Universities Africa title

TWENTY-YEAR –OLD University of Zimbabwe law student from Mutare, Tafadzwa Jaricha, will this year compete at the Miss Universities Africa 2015 after winning the Universities Zimbabwe 2015 title Ochi City, Harare. The stiff competition with other 22 models from Midlands State University, Women’s University in Africa, Bindura University, Chinhoyi University and Great Zimbabwe saw Jaricha of 6852 Chikanga Phase 3 walking away with a brand new car and other smaller prizes.

Jaricha, the current Miss University of Zimbabwe also got a holiday at Hala lodges. Yolanda Dadirai Manhenga from Midlands State Universtity was crowned first princess, while Fadzai Mubata from Great Zimbabwe University emerged the second princess.

The Miss Personality title was scooped by Women’s University in Africa’s Olivia Samwanda while Josefa da Costa won the Miss Talent award. Juliana Chirwire, Jaricha’s mother described her daughter as very humble and intelligent and said she shall continue to support her as she believes one day she will be in the world competitions.

“She started modelling at high school at a tender age of 16 and I have always been encouraging and supporting her both financially and morally. Tafadzwa is one person who is very humble and hard-working both at home and at school and I am a very proud mother because of her and my other two children. I encourage her to stick to that and I promise to be by her side always,” said the widow.

She appealed to members of the public to support her daughter as she proceeds to the Miss Universities Africa 2015 competitions. In an interview, Jaricha said she was so delighted to walk away with the top award and told The Weekender that she felt honoured to be crowned the Miss Universities Zimbabwe 2015.

“I have won the best that I have been looking for when I entered this competition and it feels great being a public icon. “Our country is experiencing very high rates of domestic violence and it is my wish and dream to reduce the rate by emancipating the society through anti-violence awareness campaigns,” said Jaricha.

She also added that winning the crown was a foremost step in her desire to carry out charity work and empower girls. Dates for the Miss Universities Africa 2015 are yet to be announced.
