Sundowns returned home yesterday satisfied with their tour here as they got a chance to play the league’s Big Three.
The Pretoria side were charmed with the professionalism displayed by Highlanders and were cheered by the good run they got from Dynamos.
The head of the Sundowns’ technical department and chief scout, Trott Moloto, said they will monitor some players here.
Moloto said while they were going to sit as a technical team to have an assessment of the three matches where they beat Highlanders (2-0), CAPS United(4-1) and had a goalless draw with Dynamos, some players also caught their eye.
“We have seen one or two players, especially from Dynamos, and from my side it was the centre back, the short one(Jaure) and the left back.
“They played very well on the day and they were outstanding. But you dont just judge players by virtue of watching one game.
“If we sit down and agree, maybe when they play the Lesotho team we might send a delegation down here,” he said.
Moloto also paid tribute to the former national Under-20 goalkeeper Liberty Chirava.
Chirava was the Sundowns’ guest ‘keeper and was in goals in the opening two matches before coming in the second half against Dynamos.
Moloto said they will only know whether the young ‘keeper had made the grade when they get an assesment report from the goalkeepers’ coach.
Chirava yesterday said it was a unique exprience and he really learnt a lot from the Brazillians.
Moloto added that the local clubs had recommended that the best time to tour Zimbabwe was around June when the league was in full swing.
“I think it was a very succesful trip for us in the sense that we played three matches within a week against highly-competitive sides, overally they gave us a good competition.
“We appreciate equally the three clubs to have allowed us to come and play them.
“There were some concerns ,for instance the playing condition, we used to play in soft pitches in South Africa. But sometimes you need to get used to some of these conditions.
“The Bulawayo pitch was okay and they also gave us a nice training ground.
“When we do the overall assessment with administration we will look at the benefits of this tour and see whether we can have this sort of a tour every year.
“The other thing is the clubs here said the momentum and competition would have picked by June and would be nice to play them then.
“We will look into it because that is the time we conduct our pre-season and is still a good time for us.
“We definitely looking forward to the second round of the league after these preparations,” said Moloto.
While the matches helped Sundowns, who will be hosting pacesetters Kaizer Chiefs next Wednesday at Loftus, they also presented Dynamos coach Callisto Pasuwa with a good assessment of his team ahead of the match against Lesotho champions.
The gaffer says he was impressed by his defence and if you consider that Augustine Mbara and newboys Byron Madzokere and Morris Kadzola did not even feature in Sunday’s tie, one can clearly sees that there is depth in this area.
However, it is not the same scenario upfront where Dynamos look lightweight.
After losing his seasoned strikers to the Absa Premiership it was always coming that this department would be severely weakened as it was left with rookie players.
