One of the events of Winter Jazz Festival that was held at City Sports Centre on Friday was a massive flop.
Despite having top Zimbabwean performers like Oliver Mtukudzi, Jah Prayzah and Sulumani “Sulu” Chimbetu the show failed to live to expectations and a handful of music lovers attended the event.
The show started late as it was preceded by a church gathering in the same venue.
Sulu who was the first on stage at 11 pm and thrilled the small crowd that came to witness the event.
Songs “Gamba”, “Sean Timba”, “Nhambarakisheni”, “Saina” and “Chauta” were among the crowd’s favourites.
Mtukudzi joined Sulu for the song Kwedu much to the delight of the fans.
Mtukudzi was next on stage and for close to two hours he kept fans on their toes with his yesteryear hits.
He also mixed the old songs with his new tracks and some of the songs he performed include “Watitsvata”, “Neria”, and “Mutavara”.
Next on stage was Tanga wekwa Sando who was making a comeback to the annual event after a long time.
The musician announced his return in a big way with his song “Wake” being the popular one.
Jah Prayzah was last to perform at the event and as usual the musician had a good night in office.
His latest album “Kumbumura Mhute” seems to be gaining ground.
Songs “Makanika” and “Kumaricho” are fast becoming popular at his live shows.
Show promoter Josh Hozheri admitted that the show was a flop and he suffered a great loss.
“I don’t know what went wrong because we did enough advertising, the artistes are the crowd-pullers and the public is familiar with the event. I don’t know what went wrong,” he said.
“Maybe people were not comfortable by the charges but our advanced tickets were much more affordable.”
Advance tickets were going for $5 while at the gate the organisers charged $10.
