JAZZ lovers in Bulawayo will celebrate St Valentines in style as popular Jazz Invitation are set to mesmerise love birds with their soothing and rhythmic tunes at a city hotel. The gig is set for the Groove Club at the Rainbow Hotel. The group is arguably one of the country’s finest jazz outfits and is known for its exquisite sound, which expertly blends traditional Zimbabwean rhythms and sounds.
Group member Kelly Rusike said fans should brace for a memorable Valentine’s gig.

“This a special show especially for couples who will be out to spoil each other on Valentine’s Day.
We have lined up a lot of surprises for the revellers, we will play a selection of love songs from our new album as well as tracks such as Ruva Rangu from back in the day,” he said.

Rusike said his group had added two more female vocalists, award winning actress Tina Masawi and Rusike’s daughter Courtney to the band.

Jazz Invitation has been in existence for close to a decade. The “jazz invitation” concept was conceived by drummer Sam Mataure who invited different musicians to play at different events and festivals across the country.

The novel concept immediately became popular as it brought together musicians of different styles and tastes.
Mataure left to play in South Africa while Jazz Invitation carried on, absorbing new members and talent such as drummer Victor Duarte.
Some of the band members include Patience Musa (vocals), Kelly Rusike (bass and vocals), Bismark (keyboard), Dave Bekoe (drums), Simba Madzara (guitar) and Mathew Ngorima.
