Other categories are humanitarian and voluntary leadership, scientific and technological development, personal improvement or accomplishment and medical innovation.
A nominee should be native born or a natural citizen of Zimbabwe aged between 18 to 40.
Participation is not restricted to JCI members only. The TOYP programme serves to recognise young people who are doing exceptionally well in their chosen fields of expertise.
This is done to raise the status of socially responsible leaders, create role models and share their stories on discovery, determination and ingenuity to inspire other young people. JCI has honoured hundreds of individuals from over 50 different countries.
The judging process is done in two phases, with the first being at national level. All nomination forms are handed over to a distinguished panel of judges who include renowned business leaders, civic society and academia.
Local judges include Mr Trust Chikohora, Evangelista Ravasingadi, Ms Lynn Mukonoweshuro and Mr Victor Marawu. Once the 10 honourees are selected at Zimbabwe level, an announcement will be made and a glamorous award ceremony which will be held in their honour.
In the second phase of judging, all nominees are uploaded on the JCI website where they compete with other young people across the globe.
A select panel of judges will choose the Ten Outstanding Persons of the World.
Once the results are available, an announcement is made and those who make it to the top 10 get the opportunity to be awarded at the annual JCI World Congress in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in November. The honouree will be complemented with an all-expenses round trip ticket to the JCI World Congress.
Last year, Zimabwe had an honouree, Tendayi Wenyika, at world stage in the political, legal and governmental affairs category.
Other past world honourees include well-known personalities such as Ms Betty Makoni, Sabelo Sibanda, Mr Strive Masiyiwa and Charlene-Anne Hewat. The award stresses the role that the youth play in national development.
JCI is a global non-profit organisation of young active citizens, who believe in creating positive change in their communities.
To fulfil this mandate, the organisation has projects and programmes that members embark on. One such programme is the Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the world programme.
