A 40-year-old man appeared before the Esigodini Magistrates’ Court on two counts of attempted murder.
The National Prosecution Authority of Zimbabwe has reported that Mandlenkosi Mhlanga, the accused is the first complainant’s ex-boyfriend.
On 24 September 2023, the accused person proceeded to the complainant’s homestead at around 11:45 pm and found her in the kitchen hut with her boyfriend who is the second complainant in this matter. He ordered the first complainant to open the door and when she refused he set ablaze the kitchen hut. “She managed to escape together with the second complainant. The accused person then struck her with a machete once on the right shoulder before he was stopped by the second complainant. A Police report was made resulting in the arrest of the accused person.
He was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment of which 2 years were suspended. He will serve 3 years effectively.
