Jealous woman sets boyfriend’s shack on fire, killing two men

SOUTH AFRICA- A woman has been accused of igniting a fire that killed two men in Khayelitsha. The incident occurred on Japhta Masemola Road in Makhaza on Sunday morning.

Reports indicate that the woman attempted to set her boyfriend’s shack on fire following a heated argument about his plans to move for a new job. Residents stated that she suspected he had found a new girlfriend.

After initially failing to ignite the shack, she allegedly returned later after drinking at a tavern and set the shack ablaze a second time. The fire spread to neighboring structures, resulting in two fatalities.

Community leader Xolelwa Mjekula expressed shock, stating, “We woke up to a terrible situation where two people died due to the actions of a jealous lover.”

A neighbour, Vuyokazi Kota, noted that the boyfriend was at the scene, traumatized and with burn injuries.
Khayelitsha police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed an inquest has been opened, stating, “The cause of the fire is still under investigation.” (Afrogazette News)
