A ZIMUNYA man, who – out of jealousy — assaulted his wife at a bottle store and burnt all her clothes, has been ordered to restitute her or risk 40 days imprisonment.

Abraham Domingo (40) of Bvirindi Village under Chief Zimunya pleaded guilty to physical abuse and malicious damage of property charges when he appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mrs Yeukai Chigodora.

Domingo was being charged with physical abuse as defined in Section 3(1)(a) of the Domestic Violence Act, Chapter 5:01 and malicious damage to property as defined in Section 140 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.

Mr Fletcher Karombe represented the State.

It was alleged that on November 18, Domingo’s wife, Rosemary Mabota was selling cigarettes at Munowenyu Business Centre when she met her husband who accused her of engaging in prostitution.

A quarrel ensued. Domingo picked a brick and hit Mabota on the chest. He went on to head-butt her, but was rescued by passers-by.

The value of the burnt clothes is $50 and nothing was recovered. Domingo was ordered to restitute Mabota $50 by December 15.

He was also ordered to pay a $50 fine before he was released from custody or risk 20 days imprisonment.
