Rising female jazz musician Jean Master rekindles her romance with her fans when she resumes live performances with a show at the Tube Nightclub in Harare tonight. Jean, who gave birth early this year, had taken a short break from live performances to take care of her baby. The short break also afforded her an opportunity to recharge her batteries in preparation for a hectic programme ahead that will run through into the festive season.
In an interview, Jean said had this to say: “I have since resumed shows and I am happy to say that I am back on my feet again and raring to go,” she said.
Her fans can look forward to a polished performance, when she gets on stage to play some of her tracks. Her unique beat has endeared her with fans from the time she started her musical journey a few years ago.
Those in the know can safely attest that Jean will serenade her fans with a number of hits from her two albums, “Africa” and “Misi Haifanani”, which features music icon Oliver Mtukudzi and contemporary musician Jah Prayzah.
Though she had humble beginnings, starting off as a backing vocalist for different groups Jean managed to carve a name for herself as one of the finest female jazz artistes in the country.
Born in Harare in 1988, Jean first tried her hand in music four years ago, with the JM Seasons Band, a move that was initially met with resistance by her parents.
However, her persistence finally paid off, after her parents allowed her to practise with the band, having realised that she was passionate about music.
Barely a year after trying her luck in music, she went on stage during the band’s many tours and fans immediately took a liking to her suave voice.
Her music is very expressive and one can almost detect the sadness, joy or even laughter in her lyrics, without necessarily gauging her facial expressions.
Jean has got an awesome stage presence, and is able to move along with her fans, whenever she is dancing.
