The hosts defeated Lady Tait by 15 runs after winning the toss and electing to bat and posted 60 runs in their allotted 5 overs while their opponents could only manage 45 runs in the chase.
Eight schools namely Sir JF Kennedy, Lady Tait, Chedonje, Kuredza, Sinoia, Maryward, Chiedza and Waverly Primary Schools from both Midlands and Mashonaland West Provinces, which is the jurisdiction of the franchise took part in the tournament.
Play was based on accumulation of points through a point system in batting and fielding with each team having two innings of 5 overs before elimination.
Teams were grouped into two pools of four where the top two teams from each pool made it to the semi-final. From Group A, Chiedza from Norton and Sir JF Kennedy made it to the semi-finals while Lady Tait who topped the pool and Sinoia managed to sail through from Group B. There was drama in Group
A following a points tally between Chiedza and JF Kennedy and a two-over match had to be played to separate the two schools which Sir JF Kennedy won when they chased only 10 runs.
There were also individual awards for the young cricketers with the most promising cricketer accolade going to Tashinga Musekiwa of Lady Tait while his fellow schoolmate Kudakwashe Kaitano received the Friday Kasteni best batsman award.
The Solomon Mire best all rounder went to Robert Murwendo of Sir JF Kennedy and Tatenda Mangava of Sinoia was the tournament’s best bowler.
Rhinos area manager, Admire Marodza, who coordinated the festival, hailed the tournament as a success and said the main objective is to identify and nurture talent at a tender age.
