Jilted man attacks ex with machete

A 25-YEAR-OLD Gweru woman is battling for life in hospital after she was attacked with a machete, allegedly by her former boyfriend after ditching him. The boyfriend is an illegal gold panner.

Midlands police spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko said the attack occurred on Monday morning when Winnet Takawira, a bar lady at Mupambadzire Night Club in Mkoba, was brutally attacked, allegedly by Joseph Mpandla (35) who could not stomach being jilted for another man.

Insp Goko said Takawira was at her house after knocking off from work when she was approached by her ex-boyfriend.

Mpandla was armed with a machete and allegedly struck Takawira several times all over her body, leaving her unconscious.

She lost her right finger and suffered a broken arm.

“The suspect dragged her to the main road where he further assaulted her using the same weapon,” he said.

Insp Goko said the suspect was still on the run and appealed for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.

“He called threatening to kill me. He said he was going to come to the hospital and finish me off so now I am living in fear,” the victim said from her hospital bed.
