THE Bulawayo man who fatally shot his lover in front of a police officer after she ended their relationship, had in the days leading to the incident hinted to the woman that he intended to kill her.
This emerged during the man’s trial at the Bulawayo High Court.
Danis David Konson shot Siphathisiwe Ncube (27) twice in the head at point blank range, killing her instantly after she ended their affair.
According to one of the key State witnesses, Detective Sergeant Mehluli Sibanda, police recovered Konson’s cellphone containing messages which indicated that the two lovers were not in good books at the time of the commission of the offence.
On 9 September 2012, Miss Ncube wrote a message: “You know what? I am sick and tired of you I told you that I am married and do you honestly think that I can be begging you again. I am waiting for you with my husband you better come with the gun, but once you miss you are in trouble.”
Konson replied: “This is the last message whereby you won’t phone me again or text… I don’t want to get in trouble with your husband.”
In his testimony, Det Sgt Sibanda said they recovered three spent cartridges and a head bullet at the scene of the incident.
“We also retrieved the deceased’s wrapping towel and a firearm licence under Danis David Konson’s name, which stated that the firearm was for home protection not to be carried about,” he said.
Justice Lawrence Kamocha yesterday postponed the matter to 2 December for the defence case following the close of the State case.
Konson, who is charged with murder, has not entered a plea yet.
According to court papers, Konson, of St Albans Drive in Parklands was enraged after Miss Ncube left him for another man, Mr Sikhumbuzo Dube, from her village.
Konson had opened a grocery shop for Miss Ncube at Tshongogwe Business Centre in Lupane and had demanded his money back after the end of their affair.
Mrs Angeline Munyeriwa, for the State, said Konson and Miss Ncube began their relationship in 2011 and in January 2012, he had opened a grocery shop for her, which he also helped her run.
But in July last year, Miss Ncube told Konson that she wanted to end the relationship and he had tried to persuade her to change her mind on several occasions without success.
On 10 September last year, Konson allegedly went to Jotsholo Police Station and appealed for help in solving the dispute between him and Miss Ncube, telling the police that their quarrel was over a business deal.
Konson was assigned a police officer, Constable Wisdom Matupire, to accompany him to Tshongogwe Business Centre where he clashed with Miss Ncube.
The prosecution says Konson then pulled out a CZ 6.35mm pistol and shot Miss Ncube twice in the head and thigh, killing her instantly.
