A JILTED woman from Bulawayo’s Emakhandeni suburb smashed the windscreen of her ex-boyfriend’s car after she found him having a nice time with his new lover inside the car.
Zandile Mkandla, 21, visited his ex-boyfriend, Mlungisi Nkomo’s place on the night of New Year’s Day hoping to rekindle their relationship.
But she got more than she bargained for when she found Nkomo romping with his unidentified new girlfriend, the Western Commonage Magistrates’ Court heard on Monday.
“Mkandla got angry and hurled crude insults at Nkomo before picking a huge stone which she used to smash the windscreen of his Ford Ranger and fled,” said Tatenda Dakwa, prosecuting.
Mkandla, who sobbed throughout the court proceedings while clutching her baby, pleaded for leniency, arguing that she committed the crime out of anger and frustration.
“Your Worship, please don’t send me to jail I’m nursing a one-month-old baby,” she begged provincial resident magistrate, Willard Maphios Moyo.
“I was trying to fix Mlungisi for failing to look after our baby. He also ditched me for another woman leaving me heartbroken.”
The magistrate postponed sentencing for five years, telling Mkandla: “I took into consideration the fact that you were frustrated because of the manner the complainant treated you. However, you’re not supposed to take the law into your own hands. If you’re aggrieved because he’s not looking after your baby, then you should apply for maintenance in the courts.
“You’ve a month-old baby hence I cannot send you to jail. I therefore postpone sentencing for the next five years.”
