A 27-YEAR-OLD man from Mvududu Village in Mutare District, Tapiwa Kamudyariwa, has approached the Mutare Civil Court, seeking a protection order against his ex-girlfriend, accusing her of stalking, harassing and insulting him.
The two parties appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Purity Gumbo, where Kamudyariwa narrated his ordeal, describing how life had become unbearable since his breakup with Nomatter Mlambo earlier this year.
He told the court that they ended their relationship in April after he discovered that Mlambo was dating another man.
“Nomatter was my girlfriend, and we were ready to get married this year since we had already introduced each other to our parents. However, I saw some text messages in her phone showing that she was seeing another guy, and they were planning to meet. I also came across intimate messages between them so I decided to part ways with her. Ever since then, every time she sees me, she insults me using vulgar language even in front of my parents,” he said, adding that Mlambo continuously humiliates him publicly and harasses any woman he tries to date.
“I don’t ask her to respect my parents, but at least she should not insult them.
“When she sees me with my new girlfriend, she chases her away. Even when she meets her alone, she says: ‘murikudya zvatakasiya,’ meaning ‘you are enjoying what I left behind,’ and it has been ongoing,” he added.
Kamudyariwa also revealed that Mlambo was recently arrested for assaulting his girlfriend at a local bar.
“Last month, I met her at 4th Street Bar when I was with my girlfriend. She shouted at my girlfriend and also slapped her, claiming she was the reason for our breakup. She spat on me while I was trying to stop her. Whenever she sees me with a girl, she harasses me, and talks about our past intimate moments which is very embarrassing,” he said.
However, Mlambo dismissed the allegations, accusing Kamudyariwa of being dishonest and manipulative.
She told the court that he was trying to tarnish her image after using and dumped her for another woman.
“He failed me, and he knows what he is doing to his current girlfriend is the same thing he did to me. I was not the one who ignited the conflict. We all stay in the same area. His girlfriend and her friends always provoke me. They call me ‘maiguru’ (sister-in-law) and jeer at me. When I met them at the bar, her friends threw beer at me and I reacted — that is how I was arrested. He is the one causing all these problems, but wants to blame me. He even texts me asking for us to reconcile and I have the messages to prove it,” she said.
In response, Kamudyariwa maintained that he had long cut off communication with Mlambo, but she continued to pursue him.
“She stalks me. Whenever I meet her, she changes her route and starts following me.
She is the one who texts me. I have blocked her on several social media platforms and on my phone. When I blocked her on WhatsApp and phone calls, she started calling my younger sister,” he said.
Ms Gumbo granted the protection in favour of Kamudyariwa.
“The court has noted the consistent harassment and intimidation reported by the applicant. A protection order is therefore granted to ensure his safety and peace of mind. Both parties are strongly advised to refrain from any form of provocation,” she ruled.
