SINGER-PRODUCER Jnr Tuku, who claims to be the son of late music icon Oliver Mtukudzi, is due to launch his first album, titled “Ndafunga Dande” in Epworth next month.

The six-track jazz album was produced solo and inspired by the hardships of his upbringing in Dande village.

Although the album does not feature any popular musicians because Jnr Tuku believes that established artists are out of reach for up-and-coming musicians in the region, he hopes for greater unity in the industry to create more content that supports their communities.

Born Creation Muwodza, the 26-year-old musician said the use of Mtukudzi’s name could be a stepping stone for his debut album.

“The album title is inspired by the life I experienced in the Dande area. It was a hard life, but it shaped me to be who I am today.

“The whole message behind this is for my fans to be resilient in every situation because one day you will come out of it as a better person.

“One of the challenges I faced was the lack of live instruments to produce my music. I had to use digital software to come up with the sound I wanted and it burdened me financially.

“The album does not have any features although I wanted to feature a popular musician.

“There is a need for unity among artists so that we promote each other and to produce content that is helpful to the communities we come from as some artists are now writing music that promotes bad behaviour such as drug and substance abuse,” said Jnr Tuku.
