Job cuts will not affect FC Platinum: executive

Sikhumbuzo Moyo
THE FC Platinum executive has assured followers of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League side that threats of job cuts at the sponsoring company will not affect the future of the club.
Following reports of massive cost cutting measures at the mine that would see as many as 700 workers being laid off and wages cut, there have been fears that the football club might also be sacrificed.

The club was assembled at a very high cost with some of the players being signed for $60 000.
It is believed the players’ salaries and welfare were also a cause for concern for the general workforce which felt the figures were astronomic and therefore unrealistic in a league that sees the winner getting a paltry $70 000.

Their homeground, Mandava Stadium was renovated to meet the required Caf standards for their continental campaign. Through their public relations consultant, Chido Chizondo, the club said FC Platinum was independent of the mine’s day-to-day operations hence the latest issues at the mine would not affect the team.

In its press release, however the club said:
“As part of the ongoing cost review exercise at Mimosa Mining  Company, we would like to advise that the organisation is engaged in preliminary discussions on the form, manner and shape such an exercise will take. Mimosa Mining Company will endeavour to keep its stakeholders updated on this and any other matter that arises from time to time.”

Chizondo said as far as they were concerned, FC Platinum who still have a chance of lifting  their maiden league title, were still very safe and would be one of the 16 Castle Lager Premiership teams next season.
