Job shadowing for girls

Bulawayo Bureau
Junior Achievement (JA) Zimbabwe has been permitted by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to take 10 000 girls to work for a period of one week starting today to September 16. JA has partnered with companies to allow girls in form four to six to shadow their employees for a day. Companies that include MBCA Bank, FBC Bank, Ministry of Women Affairs, CnC Production, Zimpost, OK Zimbabwe, Rainbow Hotel and Ingutsheni Hospital have agreed to accommodate about 10 girls per day.

The pupils will work from 9am to 2pm.

JA will provide transport for the pupils and teachers to and from the career guiding organisations. Programme coordinator Mr John Kennedy says organisations and companies choose schools that they will work with on this particular programme.

The programme seeks to expose girls to career opportunities at an early stage. The programme is based on the concept of “learning by doing”.
