AFTER officially parting ways with South Africa’s Absa Premiership side Maritzburg United, speed merchant Gabriel Nyoni is now self-marketing on social media.
The 27-year-old former Highlanders and CAPS United striker could not last long at Maritzburg with claims that injuries led to the termination of his contract.
The ex-Pamushana High School pupil has been training by himself and after posting his videos on Twitter in action while doing duty for Bosso, Makepekepe and Maritzburg United, he confirmed that he was club hunting.
“Some few highlights of my career so far. Kindly like and retweet. Maybe I can get a job,” he captioned the videos.
He has also been keeping himself busy on social media with motivational posts.
Nyoni, who is fondly known as Granvia to hordes of Bosso followers, joined Maritzburg United in July last year from Caps United, a few months after his switch from Highlanders where he had been since 2013.
At Maritzburg United, he had signed a two-year contract, with an option of a 12 months extension.
He is said to be eyeing a move to the Western Cape, with Cape Umoya United and Stellenbosch understood to be some of his options.
With the Stellenbosch move, Nyoni has an opportunity to also enrol at the prestigious Stellenbosch University to further his education.
Nyoni already has a marketing degree from the National University of Science and Technology (Nust).
Maritzburg United chairman Farook Kadodia is quoted in the South African media confirming that they had parted ways with the Zimbabwean because he struggled a lot with injuries.
Because he could not give his all on the park for the Team of Choice, Kadodia said that led to coach Eric Tinkler indicating that he was no longer in their plans and they had to let him go.
“He is no longer with the club. He struggled a lot with injury. He is a speedy player, and he had niggling issues every time so he couldn’t give us that because of injury,” Kadodia is quoted saying.
