Jocelyn Peterman, Brett Gallant vying for curling gold

From mixed doubles partners to husband and wife, Canada’s Brett Gallant and Jocelyn Peterman’s Olympic journey has been a decade in the making. Now, as parents, they’re set to command the stage at Milano Cortina 2026.

“I just thought she would be a good partner to try doubles with,” Brett Gallant says, with a soft simplicity, as he recalls the moment he first asked Jocelyn Peterman if she was interested in being his mixed doubles partner.

The year was 2016, and the curling event had just been added to the Winter Olympics programme for PyeongChang 2018, offering athletes another opportunity to win a medal outside the traditional team formats.

The Canadian Mixed Doubles Championships that year, then, had a new edge to it as the quest to be the country’s representatives began.

Despite never having tried the discipline before and only knowing Peterman from chance meetings on the curling tour, Gallant fancied the duo’s chances.

To his great surprise, his instincts weren’t off.

The couple unearthed a palpable, on-ice chemistry and swept through the event to take the national title.

In the process, they also sparked something in their office relationship.

“It was obviously a great week on multiple fronts, right?” Gallant continues, grinning, as Peterman, sitting to his left, laughs.

“It just kind of all started from there. Without mixed doubles being in the Olympics, we probably wouldn’t be together today, and we wouldn’t have, you know, got to do all these crazy things together.

“So, really, we kind of have the Olympics to thank for the start of this.” — Olympics.com
