BORROWDALE jockey Karl Zechner is still a cut above the rest according to statistics released by Mashonaland Turf Club recently. As the 2014/15 horse racing season enters the fifth month Zechner is still ruling the roost at the top of the table after piloting several runners to victory. The statistics cover the period from August 1, 2014 to April 19, 2015 for Borrowdale races only.
He has saddled 96 horses, won 14 times, placed second 19 times, third nine times and fourth 13 times. He has a 15 percent rate for a win and 43 percent for a place finish.
In second position is Francois Naude with 95 rides under his belt. He has managed to win 11 times, placed second 11 times, third, eight times and fourth three times in the process managing to register a 12 percent rate for a win and a 23 percent rate for a place finish.
Sean Chambers is now the third best jockey in the country after posting 10 wins, five second place finishes, eight third place finishes and four fourth place finishes. To date he has a 15 percent rate for a win and a 26 percent rate for a place finish.
The highest placed apprentice jockey is Wesley Marwing who has taken over from Collen Storey. Marwing has moved up the ladder to fourth position on the log after taking part in 46 races and winning 10 times in the process.
He has a combined placing total of 13 times and recorded a 22 percent rate for a win and 28 percent rate for a place finish. This has seen him leapfrog a number of seasoned jockeys.
There are a combined total of 42 jockeys and apprentices at Borrowdale.
Meanwhile, trainer Corne Spies continues to produce the highest number of winners and placed runners up this season.
To date he has fielded 27 winners, 25 second placed horses alongside 29 third placed runners and 24 fourth placed runners.
He boasts of a seven percent rate for a win and a 19 percent rate for a placing, collecting $ 201,338 in the process.
