ORGANISERS of the much-awaited concert, which will see top American icon and musician Joe Thomas take to the stage, have said all is set for the grand show.
The gig is scheduled for Old Hararians Sports Club in the capital tonight.
The concert, marking Thomas’ second visit to Zimbabwe since 2008, promises a nostalgic journey through his illustrious career, filled with timeless hits and captivating performances. Adding local flavour to the mix, the line-up includes local artistes ExQ and Jukebox, ensuring a vibrant blend of international and homegrown talent.
Seasoned master of ceremonies Tich Mataz will spice up the event, infusing his signature energy into the event.
“We can’t celebrate and dance like we are in the year 2000 without a man who continues to light up dance floors to this day. Tich Mataz has been in the game for as long as I can remember and he will be bringing his years of experience via the turntables on August 12 at Old Hararians,” said organiser Walter Wanyanya.
Adding a unique twist, The Jukebox band is set to deliver a live performance dedicated to classic R&B.
“This walk down memory lane will not just be through the decks but The Jukebox band is ready to give a live performance meant for those who love R&B to the core. This isn’t just a band; it’s a musical outfit built on a unique concept: “Give us your playlist, and we’ll nail it,” Wanyanya explained.
According to Wanyanya, The Jukebox’s performance is Perfectly aligning with the concert’s theme, this performance is crafted especially for the true R&B connoisseurs.
“Prepare to be immersed in the authentic sounds of the genre, delivered with the precision and passion that The Jukebox is known for,” he stated . “For every R&B lover, this set promises an undeniable connection to the music you cherish. You won’t just enjoy it; you’ll experience your beloved R&B classics played live, just as you remember them.”
Adding to the anticipation, stage manager and events planner Marshal Shonhai shared his excitement in a Facebook post.
“Now this is one gig I’m not going to miss! For those of us who grew up in the late ‘90s into the early 2000s, Joe Thomas is one of the artistes we were raised on. He’s been a personal favourite of mine for years,” Shonhai wrote .
Shonhai also addressed comparisons to other artistes, emphasising the unique appeal of Joe Thomas.
“I’ve seen a few comments online — some folks saying, “We should be having Chris Brown instead. But listen, when you grow older and Breezy finally comes to Zim, you’ll understand why we’re excited about Joe’s pending visit to Harare. This one is for the grown folks. The lovers. The day ones,” he explained.
“This is going to be one of those rare shows where you’ll catch me in the audience, just being a fan. Big salute to Ngoma Nehosho for pulling this off — we can’t wait.”
However, before captivating Harare, Thomas recently graced South African stages, headlining the Women’s Day celebration in Johannesburg on August 9, 2025. He also performed at the Women’s Day celebration in Johannesburg alongside Anthony Hamilton.
“It’s always an honour to perform for fans around the world, but being invited to celebrate Women’s Day in South Africa is truly special. I look forward to sharing love, music and respect for the powerful women who’ve shaped this country’s history and future,” Joe said.
