THE Johane Masowe Yechishanu denomination in Bulawayo has appealed to the city council to allocate the congregation land to build a church.
In a letter which was handed over to the Zanu-PF Bulawayo provincial chairperson, Cde Dennis Ndlovu, the church said they were interested in getting a stand situated opposite a booster along Cecil Road in Selbourne Park. The church’s leaders said they had more than 6 000 members.
Cde Ndlovu said it was important for the church to get a stand and build toilets for their members.
“It is important for the people of Bulawayo to enjoy their freedom of worship in proper facilities where there are toilets. We hope the City of Bulawayo which has always supported churches will help them get this stand as per their policy,” said Cde Ndlovu.
“We look forward to a city with no open air churches and we hope the council will avail more stands for such churches. We also commend the work done by the church to help people with various problems.”
Mr Emmanuel Gwandida, the leader of the church, said it was time they started building a church as membership continued to increase.
“We are ministering to a lot of troubled people in this church from all walks of life. We have a wish to build a church hall, parking bays and a crèche for our children,” he said.
