John Phiri reveals vision for Shabanie

Paul Mundandi, Zvishavane Correspondent
NEWLY appointed Shabanie Mine coach John Phiri has promised fans that he is going to build a team that will be hard to beat at Maglas Stadium when the season begins.“I have built Mimosa who won the Division 2 league and went on to win the championship to the PSL. I am going to do the same with Shabanie and I promise fans to be patient as they are going to enjoy soccer,” he said.

“I am already working towards the Zvishavane derby and it’s going to be exciting this year. I am, however, disappointed with the players that left the club as most of them did not advise us because I felt it was very good for us to shake hands and also to be honest with each other rather than for them to behave as if they were chased away” said the soft-spoken gaffer.

Phiri said he would be building a team whose average age would be 22.  Hundreds of players invaded Maglas for trials but Phiri has already trimmed the squad to 31, which is watched by hundreds of fans on a daily basis.

The club so far has lost the services of goalkeeper Roy Mazingi and Blessed Mbavarira (Chapungu), Frankson Bushire, Tafadzwa Mombeshora, Erea Phiri (Buffaloes), Peter Muzondo, Caleb Masocha (ZPC Kariba), Valentine Ndaba (Highlanders), Pervington Zimunya (Caps United), Tarisai Rukanda (FC Platinum) and Fungai Chirinda who is believed to be headed How Mine’s way.
