Join hands in breaking women’s silence

Tanyaradzwa Karen Guwakuwa

Will my cries ever be heard?

Will I ever be like a free bird?

Will I ever gain the respect and status I truly deserve in society?

Was I born to endure so much suffering?

And these are the questions that keep on hovering in my mind like a spirit.

This time the pain can be felt from the heart,

It’s so difficult to bear the pain,

The tears in my eyes, crying in vain.

As each day passes by,

My life is like a nightmare,

As all things seem to be shattered and apart,

Having no one to wipe my tears,

Support me in my pain,

And help me smile in the darkest hour.

Since time immemorial,

As women we have been told to endure all the pain in silence.

From ancient times to modern day civilisation, all in the name of enriched education,

Gone are the hurtful times for women to suffer in silence.

Now we have to conquer all our fears,

Join hands in breaking the silence and let no women hurt any further.
