THE Office of the President and Cabinet has ordered those in possession of Joint Implementation and Monitoring Committee vehicles to surrender them to CMED Pvt Ltd within the next four days.Jomic’s role included overseeing the implementation of the Global Political Agreement signed by Zanu-PF, MDC-T and MDC who made up the inclusive Government and its role ended with the successful holding of the harmonised elections on July 31.
“The Office of the President and Cabinet notes that Jomic procured vehicles during its operations. Jomic was an agency whose role was to monitor the implementation of measures to foster peaceful co-existence among political parties,” the office said in a statement.
“Accordingly, all those in possession of Jomic vehicles should surrender them, with all the necessary tools, to CMED depots throughout the country by not later than 20th September, 2013. CMED will provide a receipt voucher for the vehicles delivered.”
Jomic was made up of representatives of Zanu-PF, MDC-T and MDC at different levels of governance. Responding to the order, Zanu-PF secretary for administration and Presidential Affairs Minister Didymus Mutasa yesterday said the party will ensure that the vehicles are returned.
“The lifespan of Jomic legally came to an end with the demise of the Global Political Agreement, hence all property should be returned to the Government of the day,” he said.
MDC-T spokesperson Mr Douglas Mwonzora indicated that his party would follow the directive, but MDC secretary general Mrs Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga said her party was surprised with the position.
