TELONE coach, Herbert “Jompano” Maruwa, views the current FIFA international break more like a double-edged sword.
For Maruwa, the break could affect his side’s rhythm, especially after the Gweru side posted some fine results.
TelOne walloped Bikita Minerals 4-0 at Gibbo last Sunday, in what was the biggest win on Match Day 27.
That win came two weeks after an impressive 2-0 win against Highlanders at Barbourfields.
Those two consecutive wins strengthened TelOne’s chances of finishing in the top four.
Maruwa’s boys are now on 43 points and three behind MWOS, who occupy fourth position, after 27 rounds of action in the 2025 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season.
“I am afraid this break might affect our rhythm, especially after posting a big win against Bikita Minerals.
“We had also just come out with a positive result against Highlanders in Bulawayo,” said Maruwa.
Those wins came after TelOne had gone four matches without a win.
Milton Chimedza (brace), Panashe Mutasa and Tawanda Macheke were on target against Bikita Minerals.
A few players came out of that battle with some knocks but Maruwa is confident they will recover in time for TelOne’s next game against MWOS at Ascot.
“On the other hand I would like to believe that the break came at the right time because players needed some time off after a hectic schedule of fixtures.
“We also have some players carrying knocks who could also use this break to recover,” said the former Dynamos, Harare City and Black Rhinos gaffer.
Maruwa still expects his side to cause problems in the last seven rounds but he wants his charges to improve their home.
In their last home match, TelOne lost 1-2 against Chicken Inn who have struggled all season.
“We need to improve our home record,” said Maruwa.
“Against MWOS it’s not going to be easy because they are a difficult side,” he said.
The return fixture ended 2-2 at Ngoni in Norton in May with TelOne missing a penalty to win it.
