in a quarterfinal tie of the Mbada Diamond Cup at Chishamiso in Hippo Valley this afternoon.
Pitamuja moved to Kiglon during the mid-season transfer window but had not seen action yet.
Coach Maxwell Takaendesa Jongwe yesterday hinted Pitamuja could be thrown into the fray as Kiglon are severely depleted following injuries to five key players – Last Chibwiro, Casper Machona, Mudiwa Mususa, Kennedy Mageja and Kumbirai Kapikinyu.
“It’s an interesting development. We have travelled with a blotted squad because we don’t know if some of our players will be able to pass a late fitness test.
“We are facing a difficult moment and I think we are the underdogs in this match because of that. But we will have to give it a fight,” said Jongwe.
Patrick Makuvaza might also get a starting place and Kiglon will also welcome leftback Arnold Chivheya back in the fold to cover up for the injuries.
Jongwe’s charges go into the match high in confidence following their 3-2 win over Masvingo last week in a league game. “I am sure we can do well if we have the right attitude. We have been creating lots of chances but we just couldn’t score.
“But to me what is positive is that chances are being created and we are hoping for a better conversion rate.
“I told my players to be relaxed and enjoy their game because we are also fighting relegation besides participating in the Mbada Diamonds Cup.
“Saints have an advantage in terms of experience, so we have to utilise all the opportunities,” said Jongwe. Kiglon beat Chicken Inn 3-1 in the first round courtesy of a double from Nelson Mazivisa and Last Chibwiro’s strike.
But Saints pulled through from a difficult assignment after elbowing out Highlanders 6-5 in a penalty shootout.
The teams had played a 0-0 draw in regulation time. But assistant coach, Admore Sibanda, yesterday said Saints, who currently sit at the basement of the Premiership table, needed to get inspiration from this match.
“Cup games are unpredictable but everyone is fit and ready for the match. We are looking forward to winning,” said Sibanda.
Saints will look for inspiration from experienced players like Chipo Tsodzo, Munyaradzi Diya and Abraham Mbaiwa.
