A SOMBRE atmosphere engulfed Zororo Memorial Park in Harare yesterday as journalists from various media houses gathered to mourn Judith Nyuke, who died in an accident.
The road traffic accident took place along Harare Drive near Art Farm in Pomona on Saturday afternoon.
Nyuke has been described as a promising and accomplished journalist.
Yeukai Karengezeka-Chisepo, a colleague who worked closely with her, said she had known Nyuke since 2018 when she was assigned to cover the courts.
“I started knowing Judith in 2018 when I was assigned by my editors at The Herald to start covering the higher courts, and ever since then we have been working together,” she said.
Karengezeka Chisepo said they later moved to the Harare Magistrates Court.
“We would spend almost every day together, looking for stories, writing stories together,” she said.
Karengezeka-Chisepo said Nyuke’s death was difficult to comprehend, as they had been together last Friday.
“To be honest, we are still in shock because Judy was somebody that we spent the day with on Friday. We did our work and we parted as usual. We had promised to see each other on Monday,” she said.
Journalist, Tatenda Chipungudzanye, said Nyuke’s death was a huge loss to the profession at a time when she was expected to rise even higher.
He said it was painful that her life had been cut short.
“It is so sad that we have lost a promising journalist, not only a promising journalist but an accomplished one.
“Unfortunately, it had to be cut short, while we thought she was going to go higher in her profession,” Chipungudzanye said.
