A SOMBRE atmosphere engulfed Zororo Memorial Park in Harare on Tuesday as journalists from different media houses came together to bury one of their own, Judith Nyuke, who died in an accident.
The accident took place along Harare Drive near Art Farm in Pomona on Saturday afternoon.
Zimpapers court correspondent Yeukai Karengedzeka Chisepo, who worked closely with her, said she had known Judy since 2018 when she was assigned to cover the apex courts.
“l got to know Judith in 2018 when I was assigned by my editors at The Herald to cover apex courts. That’s when I met Judy, and ever since then we have been working together,” she said.
Karengezeka Chisepo said their relationship was strengthened when she was assigned to Rotten Row Courts, where Judith was more inclined.
“When I moved to cover the Rotten Row courts, we started spending each day together looking for and writing stories together,” she said.
Karengezeka Chisepo said she was still to come to terms with Judy’s death since they had spent the day together the day before the accident.
“To be honest,I am still in shock because we had spent the day with her on Friday. We did our work as usual, we wrote stories, and we parted as usual. We even promised to meet on Monday,” she said.
Another journalist, Tatenda Chipungudzanye, said Judy’s death was a huge loss to the profession. He said it had come at a time when a lot was still expected from her.
“It is so sad that we have lost not only a promising journalist, but an accomplished one. Unfortunately, her sunset came at a time when we were thinking that she was going to soar higher,” Chipungudzanye said.
“All I just want to say is good night, Judith. You came, you wrote, people read, but the curtain has come down. Good night”.
