SUPERSTAR Jah Prayzah, Nutty O and Selmor Mtukudzi will add colour as the 60th edition of the Chibuku Neshamwari Dance Festival reaches a climax at Harare Gardens tomorrow.
Jah Prayzah is known for his energy-sapping acts while Nutty O has been trending well.
He has been churning out hits after hits.
After the death of her father Oliver “Tuku”Mutukudzi in 2019, Selmor has been an oasis of defiance.
Although she was already in the game before Tuku’s death, Selmor has been winning the hearts of many by performing both her dad’s playlist and her own compositions.
Prior to the after party, 10 groups from across the country will compete for the grand prize money of US$15 000.
The runners-up will get US$10 000 and US$7 500.
Dubbed “Bira Remadhanzi, 60 Years Sithokhozisa Ngezomgido!”, this year’s event is special as Chibuku are marking 60 years of running the competition.
“We are ready for the finals and we are promising a good event.
“All the best to all the participants,” said Zimbabwe National Traditional Dance Association president Kennedy Kachuruka.
The event is bankrolled by Delta Beverages, in partnership with the Zimbabwe National Traditional Dance Association.
Over the years the showcase has grown to be a platform for showcasing the rich cultural heritage across the ethnic divide.
Dances to look forward to at the showcase include Muchongoyo, Mbakumba, Jerusarema, Chihodha, Gule/Nyau and Amahiza, among others.
The groups, which are set for the battle royale, include Jeketera Renyaningwe (Masvingo), Swerengoma Arts (Mash Central), Imbimbi Dance Group (Mat North), Makarekare Dance Group (Mash East), Mbada Dance Group (Midlands), Sekunjalo Ma-Africa (Bulawayo) and Yarira Ngoma (Harare). Over the years, the contest has been hailed for promoting local dances and empowering traditional groups across the country.
