The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has dismissed as false reports in some sections of the media that its staff members are taking home a net monthly salary of ZiG$10.
The JSC was responding to media reports yesterday claiming that disgruntled Government workers under the commission have been gagged from complaining against poor working conditions while their bosses enjoy good perks.
According to the reports, the support staff had also accused JSC Secretary Mr Walter Chikwana and senior magistrates of turning a deaf ear to their concerns while threatening them with dismissal if they speak out about the alleged labour injustices.
JSC spokesperson Mr Daniel Nemukuyu dismissed as hogwash claims that the commission was underpaying its support staff, saying public sector employees, including members of the JSC, are now having their salaries pegged in United State dollars in the main and the remainder in ZiG.
“Assertions, therefore, that salaries are pegged in Zig only are far from being the truth,” said Mr Nemukuyu in a statement last night.
Mr Nemukuyu also said the Magistrates’ Court is not yet on the Integrated Electronic Case Management System platform hence the allegation that court users are failing to access their files because they do not have emails is again false.
“We wish to further highlight to the public that matters in the magistrates’ courts, including hearings and accessing files, are done manually.”
Mr Nemukuyu said the Government recently reviewed salaries of all public sector employees, including those of the JSC, adding that a policy position was taken that salaries shall be pegged in US dollars.
“All members of the JSC benefitted from this salary review,” said Mr Nemukuyu.
“The JSC continues to attend to the needs of its staff through various initiatives, which include staff wellness programmes, provision of transport to members of staff to and from their places of work and other staff assisted social services.”
Mr Nemukuyu implored members of the Press to report factually at all times, not salacious stories based on misinformation and hearsay, which are malicious.
