The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has established Special Anti-Drug and Substance Courts across the country to address the growing issue of drug and substance abuse.
Speaking during a training session currently underway in Harare for forty-four officers, JSC Secretary Dr Walter Chikwana said two magistrates and two prosecutors have been assigned to handle drug and substance-related cases at each court
Dr Chikwana said the magistrates and prosecutors have received specific instructions on how to manage such cases.
“We feel it is necessary to bring together senior magistrates and prosecutors to undergo this training so that they can properly and legally address the scourge.
“We have established Special Anti-Drug and Substance Courts across the country,” he said.
High Court judges, senior magistrates, and senior law officers will deliver lessons covering key sentencing principles, the legislative framework for identifying drug and substance offences, and the use of forensic evidence in drug-related cases.
