“I got off the plane today (Wednesday) and was very tired, felt sick since it took me three flights to get to Zimbabwe. Zimbabwean people are amazing and I want to thank the organisers and God for great opportunity.
“You people are blessed. I have met some Zimbabweans in United States and they are good people. I have also seen the hospitality of you. When I arrived they took me to the car, treated me nicely and took me to the hotel,” said the musician.
Bynum will leave the country tomorrow.
The awards which were in their second edition running in celebrating the recognition of different personnel in business, Government, religion, art, music and dance among others saw prominent figures and celebrities in attendance.
They included Finance Minister Tendai Biti, Tourism Minister Walter Mzembi, Information Communication Technology Minister Nelson Chamisa, business mogul Phillip Chiyangwa, talk show host Mai Chisamba, Aleck Macheso, Chiwoniso Maraire, Supa Mandiwanzira, Zodwa Mutunzi and Jonathan Denga among others.
Amara Brown joined Maraire on stage in a tributary performance of the late Andy Brown who won a Posthumous Award.
The duo performed renditions of the late artiste’s songs, “Mapurisa” and “Mawere Kongonya”.
Receiving the award on behalf of the Brown family, Amara together with other members, could not hide their tears of joy.
Amara said her father was a true inspirational artiste.
“I sat down with my father and he mentioned that one day he would be recognised. He said he would win an award and he would be a legend. So here is the day and dad thank you for what you have taught us.”
Mudiwa, Ba Shupi, Cindy Munyavi and Rolex a dance outfit, also put a splendid performance.
There were 34 categories and among the winners were Dudu Manhenga — Best Female Artiste, Suluman Chimbetu — Best Male Artiste, Pastor G got the seasoned current songwriter, while Jah Prayzah, won the prize for the Best Upcoming Artiste.
The Lifetime Achievement Music Award went to Mechanic Manyeruke, Mudiwa Mtandwa got the Listener’s Choice Award, while Cindy Munyavi got the Sound of the Future Award.
The accolade for the Fastest growing radio station, went to Zi Fm and Hazvineyi Sakarombe was voted the TV Personality of the Year.
Last year the awards honoured such names as Oliver Mutukudzi, Tawanda Nyambirai, Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa, Mai Chisamba, Winky D, Wendall Parson, Bishop Tudor Bismark and Phillip Chiyangwa.
The awards are in honour of the founder, Victor Kambasha.
